Hands-on science is an exciting and dynamic way to communicate the basic concepts of elementary science to your students. We spend all day dispensing information and opinions in other subject areas. But in science children need to acquire the information and develop the ideas themselves. Science is a process, and children need to learn the processes of observation and experimentation, trial and error, hypothesizing and drawing conclusions by doing these processes. Using common household materials to perform these experiments in the classroom allows every child to experience the processes of science and become involved with science in an intimate way. The information the children learn is just the gravy topping the meat and potatoes of scientific experimentation and inquiry.
