$6,799.99 $9,499.99

Overview

Extremely SCARCE complete collection. I can only find a single volume available online from this collection. Many of the covers show significant wear with bumping, peeling of spines, fraying. Deckle-edged pages, some of which are darkened on the outside edges. Top edge of pages in gilt. Bindings are tight and pages are clean and straight. All significant flaws will be pointed out below. If you would like additional pictures, please reach out, I am limited on the amount I can post.

Numbered Limited Edition. This collection is number 170 of 204, printed throughout on Japan paper. "Bound in yellow raw silk, and green half levant morocco spines, at $4 per subscription-set copy. Kipling's royalty rate was set at 15% on the retail price, or 30 cents per volume on the trade set and 60 cents per volume on the limited edition, and (though he thought the yellow silk a trifle too yellow) he was rightly pleased with the Edition de Luxe result, writing to Doubleday that upon viewing the first two volumes in their box on the drawing room table: each time I look at them I feel as though I had just had a shave and a shampoo at Hoffman House; a Turkish bath a new suit of dress clothes; a Sherry's dinner and a green mint and a cigar (14 March 1897, Letters 2, P. 290). x, [ii], 292pp. Approximately 8 ½ inches tall."
