Essays on Old and New Judaism. Dubnow's essays pondered the strengths and weaknesses of Nationalism as spirituality, Nationalism as political philosophy, Nationalism as Memory, and Nationalism as Culture -- including that of language. He also questions what elements constitute the idea of Nationalism during a diaspora.
A scholar and founder of the Jewish Autonomism school of thought, Dubnow wrote several respected scholarly works in various fields of study.
Although he rejected the idea of Jewish history as one of martyrdom, Dubnow was gunned down in the Riga ghetto by a drunken Latvian Nazi in 1941 during a mass round up.
