Except for Lewis and Clark, she was the most widely traveled North American of her time. She was born a Shoshone in the Rocky Mountains. As a girl, she was captured by the Minnetarees and taken to live on the plains of the Upper Missouri. Still a teenager, she joined the Lewis and Clark expediton, and traveled to the Pacific and back.
