Overview
Who were the Coltons of Milan, Ohio? As revealed to us through their personal correspondence (carefully preserved in attics and basements for more than a century), this indeed was family of principle, patriotism and passion. Throughout the challenging years of the Civil War, this family of mother, father, two sons and four daughters maintained a sense of balance and continuity of purpose.
Individual personalities are reflected in their style of writing.
Melinda Sophia and Hamilton - dedicated, sacrificing, disciplined.
Sheldon-upright, methodical, and quietly poetic
Carlos- flamboyant, fun-loving but most thoughtful son.
Lottie- somewhat insecure : a shy, loving wife and mother.
Lina -pert, bright, feminine, with a charming sense of humor
Nelia- sweet - natured, musically talented: a descriptive writer
Delia- the hard - working protector of her parents.
This book is not about the Civil War per se, although there are vivid and detailed accounts from the fields of battle. This is the story of individual integrity, strong family values and spiritual strength. Readers may now share, with the Coltons, their daily experiences, joys, and sorrows.
